Week 2 - 3: Activity 1

 1. You were not able to prepare your graded report in Oral Communication. Mr. Reyes, then, calls you to go to the front and start your presentation. How are you going to explain the situation to your teacher?

- I will apologize first to Mr. Reyes and I will tell him honestly that I am not prepared yet for the presentation. I will politely explain to him all the reasons why I came unprepared. Then I will ask him if I can present on another day. I will promise him that I will work and prepare my presentation to the best of my ability.

2. Your cousin, Karl, calls you over the phone and tells you that he cannot help you in your errand because he needs something to do for his school project. What will you tell him to convince him to spare you a bit of his time and that you need him to buy the surprise birthday gift for your father?

- First, I will say to him that it is my father’s birthday so I really need his help in preparing a surprise party. I will tell him that I am ready to help him with his schoolwork so we can make it faster. Also, I will do this as payment for my favor to him and I will promise him that I would do the same thing for him if ever he needed me for an errand

3. You are about to start with your report which you have failed to prepare for when your mother calls you on your mobile phone. How are you going to respond to your mother? What will you tell her?

-  In this situation, I know that my mind is in panic and stress because I don't want interruptions while I am doing a report or any school work. So first, I would take a step back, and breathe. Then I will answer the call politely, I will ask my mother if it was urgent. If it is not, I will explain to her that maybe we can talk about it later after I finished my report. But if it is urgent, then I will listen and turn my focus to her.

4. You are in the middle of your discussion about the Tree-Planting Initiative of your school but you notice that the District Supervisor is not really paying attention to what you are saying. How will you address the supervisor respectfully?

-      I will finish and continue my discussion even though the District Supervisor is not paying attention. Then, I will ask the supervisor if there is something he/she needs to clarify. I will also ask him/her for an opinion about the discussion. In this way, I would get him to engage in the discussion without me disrespecting his/her authority. 

5. You are already on your way home when your best friend, Diego, approaches you and asks for your help with his graded report tomorrow. You know that you need to go home early because of the surprise birthday party for your father but you also see the concerned look on your best friend. What will you do and what are you going to tell Diego?

-       I will check the clock first, if it has a lot of time before the start of the party, then I will urgently help Diego in finishing his tasks. Another way is that I would just bring him home to let him join the party. In this way, we can make his report together without rushing and worrying about the time. We would just do it inside of my room and then we would enjoy the party after we finished it.
